The Salisbury Enhancement Committee Inc. (SEC) has received a grant of Eastern Caribbean Dollars (XCD)$36,329.85 from the European Union(EU) and Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica (GOCD) funded SFA 2000 Framework  for Agri-Business Development and Enterprise (FADE) Project.

The Salisbury Enhancement Committee is a Community Based Organization which was formed in 2007, and incorporated in 2008. Since their formation, they have spared headed several events and projects within the community, including their signature Market Day with a Difference, and their flagship project, www.bawilinkup.com- Salisbury’s community website.

In this regard, the funds will be used by S.E.C to undertake Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening activities for the Organization and assist in meeting some of the many needs identified within the organization and the community at large. The grant, which ends on May 31, 2010, will allow for the group to be able to purchase office equipment such as a project laptop and printer, along with a P.A system which will facilitate the hosting of training and other community carried out by the committee.

The grant, also provides for the funding of two farmer development workshops involving Organic Farming techniques (covering areas such as organic pest control and soil fertility), and Farm Finance Management. The first of these seminars is scheduled to take place on Thursday April 28th, at the Salisbury Primary School while the second will take place on Wednesday May 12th.

While the group cites several other challenges meeting the farming and wider community of Salisbury, it is grateful for the funds made available and would like to express it’s sincere gratitude and that of the Salisbury community to the European Union and the Government of Dominica.  The SEC  believes that the grant will go a long way in helping to achieve their objectives as serving as an effective community based organisation catalyzing the social, cultural, economic and environmental development of the village of Salisbury.
